What are calendar groups?

When you subscribe to a calendar, each subscription must be added separately to your calendar application. While this provides some benefits, such as having the subscriptions in different colors, there is also some overhead in managing them.

A calendar group resolves these issues.

  • A calendar group is similar to a single calendar subscription, but it contains multiple calendars.
  • When you subscribe to a calendar group, you'll get all the calendars it contains.
  • All events within the same calendar group are shown in the same color even if they come from different calendars.
  • If the same event is included in multiple calendars inside the same calendar group (for example, some national holidays are also flag-flying days) , that event is shown only once.
  • If you add a new calendar into a calendar group, the events from the new calendar will appear in your calendar automatically. With separate subscriptions, you'll need to add each calendar separately.
  • If you delete a calendar group, it will not delete the calendars inside it. Those calendars will be moved back to single calendars, where they can be removed.
  • If you move a calendar into a calendar group, that single calendar will still appear in your calendar application as a separate calendar until you remove it.
  • One subscription can be only in one group at a time. However, you can duplicate a calendar subscription and use the duplicate in another calendar group.
